CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS “Celebrity Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family” - Put on your PJs, bring out the whole family and listen to bedtime stories read by Mrs. Borovitcky, principal of Dobbins Elementary. “Creation Station: A Make-and-Take Craft Program” - For children of all ages at Brownlee Woods, Campbell and Struthers. For school-age children at Austintown. “Family Story Time: Food! Glorious Food!” - Celebrate the season with family and food at the library. Enjoy food-related stories and songs and create a snack of your own. Ingredients provided. For toddlers to third-graders. Children younger than 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up. “Fun Time for 4s and 5s” - Join us for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (age 4-5) become a successful reader. “Gotta Move Story Time!” - Stories and games for ages 2-5. Children must be accompanied by an adult. “Guess ’N’ Go – Do You Know?!” - Guess the number of items in the jar. Closest guess wins. For grades 6 and below. “Hey Kids! – Rock the Vote, Part II” - We received nominations for your favorite book characters and narrowed it down to the top five. Now it’s time for you to vote and determine a winner! For grades 6 and below. Boardman, Library Hours, Nov. 17-22 “Imagine With Us: Stories and Art at the Butler Institute of American Art” - Just up the road from Main Library at The Butler Institute of American Art, one of our children’s librarians and a museum art educator will help children become master readers and create masterpieces through a story time and art activity. The program will focus on one of the museum’s major exhibits or works. Open to families of children ages 12 and younger. “Kids’ Club: Turkey Tales” - Stories, games and a craft for grades K-3. “Pajamarama! Thanksgiving Style!” - Make Thanksgiving crafts and more for children of all ages. Wear your PJs. Children must be accompanied by an adult. “Something Special: Thanksgiving Style” - Holiday stories and a craft for ages 4-5. Poland, 6-7:30 p.m., Nov. 13 “Thanksgiving Trivia!” - How much do you know about Thanksgiving? Take our quiz to find out. Highest score wins a prize. For grades K-6. “Thanksgiving Turkey Tales” - Gobble! Gobble! Gobble! Calling all turkey fans… talk turkey and strut into the library for stories, songs and a craft. For ages 2-5. Sign up. “Tiger Tales: Favorite Stories and Fun!” - Holiday stories and more fun for children of all ages. “Trim a Tree for November” - Decorate an ornament for our all-seasons tree. For children of all ages. “The ‘T’s’ Have It: Thanksgiving, Turkeys and Trivia!” - How much do you know about the holiday and the bird? Try our trivia contest and you might win a prize! Babies must be accompanied by an adult. “Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s” - Join us for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (age 2-3) become a successful reader. BABY BRILLIANT PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS “Baby Brilliant: Sharing Books With Pre-Readers” - Learn appropriate activities to help your children as they develop and expand their pre-reading skills. For parents, teachers and caregivers of children ages 4-5. Sign up. TEENXTREME PROGRAMS “Movie Premiere Party: It’s ‘Twilight’ Time!” - The movie based on Stephenie Meyer’s book “Twilight” comes out this month, so celebrate with us! Using the winning design from our September T-shirt contest, you can create a T-shirt that’s all your own and stay for games, quizzes, music and food only vampires could love. Plus, enter to win tickets to the movie’s premiere on Nov. 21! For grades 7-12. Registration is limited and required by Nov. 4. Funded by the Frank & Pearl Gelbman Charitable Trust - Huntington Bank, the Wal-Mart Literacy Grant and the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County. “Annual ‘Make a Gingerbread House’ With Chef Lynn Porch” - Pastry Chef Lynn Porch of the Library’s Chapters Café will show you how to make your very own gingerbread house. ADULT PROGRAMS “Business & Investment Center: Business Information @ PLYMC/24-7” - Join librarians from the Library's Information Services department for a demonstration of the following databases: D&B Million Dollar Database, DemographicsNow Library Edition, and ReferenceUSA (Business, HealthCare, New Businesses, and Residential modules). These databases are available via home/remote access from the Library's website and provide authoritative and timely information for your business or career. Registration is required; call 330-744-8636 and press “2” at the prompt. “Community Diversity Program Series: Dispelling the Myths of Native Americans” - The Pipe family of Austintown offers a Native American presentation as father, Herman Pipe, facilitates a discussion about the misconceptions of their culture. He will explain the distinct and unique status of Native Americans from federally recognized tribes in this country as well as legal and political definitions. Native American artifacts and books will be on display. The program is part of the Community Diversity Program Series by the YSU Community Diversity Council. The Library is a partner in this council, which presents the community with events and performances to promote a better understanding of and appreciation for the diverse nature of the Mahoning Valley. Proceeds benefit all public libraries in the county. The bookstore is located in the lower level of the Poland Library. “Grant Center: Introduction to the Foundation Directory Online” - Get a hands-on introduction to the Foundation Center's Web subscription database, the Foundation Directory Online Professional. Learn to create customized searches that develop targeted lists of foundations matching your organization's funding needs, and search for grants made by top funders. Registration is required; call 330-744-8636 and press "2" at the prompt. “Grant Center: Introduction to Fundraising Planning” - If your organization has never developed a fundraising plan, this new session is for you. Jimeka Holloway, training coordinator at the Foundation Center, Cleveland, will explain how to analyze your organization and develop a fundraising plan that includes a variety of revenue sources. You'll learn how to conduct an assets inventory, develop a case statement, identify fundraising partners and prepare a fundraising plan and calendar. Learn about key components, the signing and packaging of a proposal, and helpful resources, including sample proposals. Also, get suggestions for contacting a funder if a proposal is rejected. The group meets every second and fourth Monday of each month and is sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.
