CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS Recognizing Top Summer Readers “Celebrity Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family” - Put on your PJs, bring out the whole family and listen to bedtime stories read by Traci Thompson of the Poland Fire Department. Learn fire safety tips, too! Top readers from summer reading will be recognized. “Don’t Bug Me! I’m Reading!” - Stories, crafts and games for children of all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. “Family Story Time: Celebrating Summer Readers” - Join us as we celebrate the end of summer reading. BABY BRILLIANT PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS “Baby Brilliant: Sharing Books With Babies and Toddlers” - Learn tips and techniques for sharing books with early talkers that will help your child develop critical pre-reading skills. For parents, teachers and caregivers of babies 0-23 months old. Sign up. TEENXTREME PROGRAMS “Got Fangs?” - Enter our vampire T-shirt design contest! We’ll announce the winner in October at our Teen Read Week celebration with Rachel Caine, author of the Morganville Vampires series. And, we’ll use the winning design for our T-shirt-making program in November. The contest runs all of September and is open to Mahoning County teens in grades 7-12. “Guitar Lessons” - At your own speed, learn the basics of playing the guitar! So many choices, how to decide? Come to our meet ’n’ greet with K9's for Compassion. ADULT PROGRAMS “Author Visit” - The Friends of The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County Bookstore will host a presentation and book signing by Roger Hall, author of “How Do You Pet a Porcupine? Solutions to Your Prickly Communications Problems.” Syndicated columnist and professional speaker Terry Brock says of the book, “This story about porcupines and the principles we can learn from them is something everyone should know— the business applications are enormous.” The bookstore is located in the lower level of the Poland Library. “Business & Investment Center: InvestmentInformation@PLYMC/24-7” - Join librarians from the Library’s Information Services department for a demonstration of the following databases: Business & Company Resource Center, Morningstar Investment Research Center, and Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage. These databases, which are available via home/remote access from the Library’s website, provide authoritative and timely information to help you with investment decisions. Registration is required; call 330-744-8636 and press “2” at the prompt. “CSI Y’Town” - Join fans of mystery books, movies and TV for “Homeland Security,” a presentation by Clark A. Jones, interim director of the Mahoning County Emergency Management and Communication Agency. CSI Y’Town is sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County and is a chapter of the national “Sisters in Crime” organization. Gentile, author of “Dolce Far Niente - Sweet Doing Nothing: A Journey Through the Italian Countryside.” “Genealogy: Ancestor Searching With World Vital Records” - Come and learn about the Library's newest electronic genealogy resource, World Vital Records, which features online access to more than 9,000 worldwide collections of data, including passenger lists, yearbooks, historical newspapers, vital records, local histories and more. “Grant Center: How to Approach a Foundation” - Jimeka Holloway of the Foundation Center Cleveland will teach you how to initiate contact with potential funders, plan calls and meetings and build partnerships with donors. Also, Patricia Brozik, president of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, will explain how to approach this local foundation and others like it. This free program is for fundraisers with some experience under their belts, though not necessarily with foundations.
